Hearthstone’s Next Expansion Announced

Hearthstone’s next expansion has been announced by Blizzard. You may recall earlier this year that Blizzard filed an interesting trademark for Return of the Lich King. At the time it wasn’t clear whether this was intended to be for World of Warcraft or for Hearthstone. Well that question has now seemingly been answered. Blizzard has announced the next expansion for Hearthstone is Knights of the Frozen Throne.

Knights of the Frozen Throne is scheduled to be released in August and after this initial reveal, they will share more new cards starting July 24th. In total, the expansion will add 135 new cards. There will be Death Knight versions of the game’s original heroes. You will now be able to add Heroes to your deck using a new card type. When you change your Hero, your Hero Power will also change.

Another addition to Hearthstone is a new gameplay mechanic called Lifesteal. As the name would imply, this basically saps life from your opponent and gives it to you (you are healed when you deal damage with Lifesteal). As for the titular element of this expansion, the adventure takes place in Arthas’ stronghold, Icecrown Citadel. Hearthstone’s ICC will have 3 wings and a final battle with The Lich King. Completing a wing earns you a card pack. If you finish the prologue for the adventure, you’ll get a Legendary Hero Card.

If you pre-order, you’ll get a new card back in the form of the mythical sword Frostmourne. Here’s the new cards that have been revealed so far for Knights of the Frozen Throne.
