PlayStation 4 Firmware Update 5.0

New details have emerged about Sony’s PlayStation 4 Firmware Update 5.0. While official update notes haven’t been released thus far, Eurogamer was able to get a hold of some information about the update. One of the main features of the PlayStation 4 Firmware Update 5.0 is that if you have a PS4 Pro, you can now stream on Twitch at 1080p/60 FPS. There will also be changes to the master & sub-account system, notifications will be available in the Quick Menu, and you’ll be able to follow any user.

According to Eurogamer, Twitch streaming at 1080p/60 FPS will be for PlayStation 4 Pro owners only. As for the change allowing gamers to follow anyone, not just verified accounts, the reasoning is to “encourage more sharing of content and more interactions.” In addition, following someone won’t count against your friend limit and you won’t have to have your request verified by the other person first. The concept will be similar to what is available on Xbox One already. If you don’t want people to follow you, you can change your settings for that. It can be limited to only your friends or anyone. You can even block people if you so desire.

In the update, family accounts can have more than one adult account. You can set up a parent or guardian role as well as parental controls for each account. This will allow you to change options for each child such as how much they can spend, what content they can view, and what communications are allowed. You can also send requests for other adult accounts to join your family account. When the update goes live, you’ll be able to control your family account’s settings from your PC or smartphone as well.

As mentioned above, notifications will be added to the Quick Menu, eliminating the need to return to the Home Screen to see them. If you have file transfers in progress, you’ll be able to view them in the new Quick Menu. Speaking of notifications, there will be push notifications added for certain events.
