ARMS – New Character & Global Testpunch Demo Announced

Another announcement from Nintendo at Gamescom this year was that ARMS will be getting a new character. In addition, there will be a free Global Testpunch demo event this weekend, August 25th through August 27th.

The new character is named Lola Pop. She is a clown with a unique personality and performs on the street. Her key ability is to inflate her body similar to a balloon. This will help to improve defense. In addition to Lolo Pop, Nintendo is adding three new Arms and a new stage to the game as well. This character and stage were teased about a week ago as we previously reported.

More ARMS 2.0 Update Details

More ARMS 2.0 update details have been revealed by Nintendo (via Eurogamer & My Nintendo News). One part of the update is a new playable character, Max Brass, which we previously told you about. Another addition to the Nintendo Switch fighting game is a versus mode. In this mode you’ll be able to control Hedlok.

The ARMS 2.0 Update is scheduled to be available tomorrow. Arms Producer Kosuke Yabuki gave some additional info to Eurogamer about the update.

“I can talk about it a little bit now – Max Brass is the main part of tomorrow’s update, but there is a new versus mode where in a fight between two or three players there’s a Hedlok mask players battle over, and when you get the mask your own character can turn into Hedlok,” Yabuki explained. “If one player turns into Hedlok it’ll be up to the other players to take him down. The Hedlok mode won’t just be available in one v one versus modes – it’ll be available online and in every multiplayer mode.”

Another change being made to the game is related to balance issues. Mr. Yabuki didn’t go into a lot of detail here, but did say a full changelog would be posted once the update is live. Here’s what he had to say regarding trying to balance the game.

“One thing with a balance update – if you say we’ve nerfed this character, fans of that character won’t be happy about it! That’s something we’re aware of, and with this update the balance adjustments are done in a way not to make any character less good than they are at the moment. One thing I definitely think about, and that I’m not a fan of, is when it’s possible to win using one technique over and over again, repeating the same thing and winning like that. That’s something, in terms of the game balance, that we’re thinking about and trying to adjust it so that’s not possible.”

There’s a couple other quotes from Yabuki-san in the Eurogamer article, which you can view here.
